First tea dance at the Manhattan Club
What a wonderful afternoon’s dancing…
What was not to like? Dancing from 2 till 7pm! DJ and host Dickson Shumba was not only happy to take requests but also to take guidance from anyone and everyone there. Should we have a bit of salsa now, do we want another tanda of milonga, do we want DiSarli and some of the tango classics. With plenty of time for everyone to get their own kind of music played.
The Manhattan Club was a stupendous, glamorous and spacious venue which sparkled and looked very inviting, with its huge, square dancefloor. There was a free tea and a huge array of delicious cakes for everyone. Not bad for £8. Rosie Wilson and Dickson Shumba had gone to a great deal of trouble to make the event a success, so it was lovely that they were so relaxed and welcoming. That is them dancing in the photo (below).
What made the afternoon so special was the crowd. Everyone entered into the spirit of things (as Dickson and Rosie envisioned it) and relaxed. Everyone talked to one another. Everyone danced with one another. Everyone got all the dances and all the partners they wanted. And most people had a go at some form of dancing they had not tried before! Dickson even had a happy excited group have a go at his own form of line dance…
The next tea dance at the Manhattan Club is on Sunday May 12th. Tell your friends. And come along for a really relaxed, friendly afternoon of wonderful dance.
